How to become a clipper for streamers
Streamers grow on short clips, and most have no time to make them. A clipper watches the stream, catches the moments and turns them into vertical videos. Here is what the job involves, how to start, and how to do it fast enough to matter.
What a clipper does
- Watches the stream, live or soon after, and spots the moments worth sharing.
- Cuts each moment to a short clip, usually 15 to 60 seconds.
- Frames it for vertical, adds captions where the platform plays on mute, and posts it or hands it over.
The best clippers know the community. They know the joke that has been running for an hour, and they know when the quiet pause is the clip.
Start with permission
A stream belongs to the streamer. Before you post clips of someone’s channel, ask them, and agree in writing what you post, where, under whose account, and how you are paid if you are. Follow the platform’s rules on reposting too. Many streamers are glad to have a clipper; asking first is what makes it a job rather than a takedown.
How to find a streamer to clip for
- Start with a channel you already watch. You know its moments.
- Make three or four clips for your own portfolio from public moments you have permission to use, and show them.
- Offer a trial: one stream, clips delivered the same night.
- Smaller channels are easier to reach and often need the help most.
A workflow that keeps up with the stream
The value of a clip falls fast after the moment. A clipper who delivers during the stream is worth more than one who delivers tomorrow. With ClipLive:
- Paste the twitch.tv or kick.com channel link into ClipLive at the start of the stream. For YouTube Live or TikTok LIVE, share the browser tab instead.
- Press X for the last 15, 30 or 60 seconds when a reaction lands. Use I and O on the waveform for longer bits.
- Choose 9:16 and move the crop onto the streamer. Create the clip and download the MP4.
- Post it, or drop it where the streamer’s team picks it up, while the stream is still on.
