How to download Twitch clips, and make your own
Twitch clips are great for sharing a link. When you want the file, to post as a TikTok or a Short, you need to download it. Here is how to do that for your own channel, what to do about other channels, and a faster way to get a vertical clip in the first place.
Download clips from your own channel
As the streamer, you can download clips of your channel, made by you or your viewers, from Twitch itself. Open your Creator Dashboard, go to Content, then Clips, find the clip and choose Download from its options. You get an MP4 in the stream’s wide frame.
For a whole stream, download the past broadcast from Video Producer before it expires (how long Twitch keeps VODs).
Checked 17 October 2026. Twitch moves its menus from time to time; the Clips list in the Creator Dashboard is the place to look.
Clips from someone else’s channel
Plenty of websites offer to download any Twitch clip from its link. Before you use one, remember that a clip belongs to the streamer’s channel. If you want to repost it, ask the streamer, and follow Twitch’s rules. Many streamers are glad to have clippers, but ask first.
The faster way: make the clip yourself, live
A downloaded Twitch clip is wide, so it still needs cropping before it works as a TikTok, a Short or a Reel. If you are watching the moment live, you can skip the download and the edit:
- Paste the twitch.tv channel link into ClipLive while the stream is live.
- When the moment happens, press X for the last 15, 30 or 60 seconds, or mark it with I and O on the waveform.
- Choose 9:16, slide the crop onto the streamer, and create the clip.
- Download the MP4, already vertical, and post it while the stream is still on.
Twitch’s own clip button allows up to 60 seconds. ClipLive allows 60 seconds free, 5 minutes on Starter and 10 minutes on Pro. The full steps: how to clip a Twitch stream while it is live.
